About this blog title

I cannot tell you how many times I have shown up at events with a couple of cameras around my neck, a gadget bag full of odds & ends and a lighting kit and have been asked that question. If it happened once every few years, that would be one thing. But it happens a LOT. It's like getting pulled over by the police and he's standing there with uniform, gun, flashing lights and asking him "Are you a cop?" I would love to come back with a witty reply, such as "No, I am Jesus. Don't you recognize my beard?" However, I cannot be that rude.

Roof Leak Repair

I am a land lord and as such have property that needs maintenance. Today I mowwd the lawn, then I repaired a roof leak. It was at my four unit Clay st place in Watertown. The leak was around the plumbing vent pipe. The photos show how I set up a couple of ladders to make the repair. My 32 foot ladder got me up where I needed to be. Roof brackets and a plank were fastened next. Then a four foot step ladder was laid on the roof and that was my perch. I then used a whole tube of silicone to fill in the cracks, seams, and what ever. By the time it was all said and done, it was a three hour job.

  1. Roof damage can be caused by different factors like a change in temperature or strong winds. And in some cases, mold and algae grows on the roof. Having a durable roof helps in eliminating damages.

  3. It is a good thing that as a landlord, you take care of problems on your own. But doing it yourself can be risky especially if you are not properly prepared. Hiring an expert roofer can be a great move, as they are more knowledgeable and well-equipped in dealing with roof problems. It can be a safe move for you, and you would not need to climb a 32-feet ladder anymore.

  4. You are such a good land lord! I’m sure that your tenants will appreciate your gesture, especially with the roof issues. Roof leaks can be a big hassle, both for tenants and land lords. It is good that you were able to see this problem early on to patch the roof issues. But do check other parts of the roof. There might be some problems lurking on the other side.

  5. Allyson and Emma are right. :) It’s a good thing that you repaired the leak right away. Many damaged roofs are caused by minor leaks such as in your case. It can be troublesome for you and your tenants if you let this issue unresolved. Still, I want to stress the importance of checking the roof regularly even if there are no signs of leaks and damages.

  6. It always makes sense to maintain something rather than to replace it altogether. It's a good thing that you maintain every part of the house well, so you don’t have to spend on repairs or replacements any time soon. The roof, for example, will cost you a lot if you change it so often. Having it checked by a reputable roofing company will also do you good, since you can be assured there are no roofing problems that you overlooked.
