About this blog title

I cannot tell you how many times I have shown up at events with a couple of cameras around my neck, a gadget bag full of odds & ends and a lighting kit and have been asked that question. If it happened once every few years, that would be one thing. But it happens a LOT. It's like getting pulled over by the police and he's standing there with uniform, gun, flashing lights and asking him "Are you a cop?" I would love to come back with a witty reply, such as "No, I am Jesus. Don't you recognize my beard?" However, I cannot be that rude.

A Bat in the Basement May 26, 2024 and Artsy Photo

 May 26 and I discovered a bat roosting in our basement. He was in same place as previous bats I discovered roosting in the basement. I got rid of it, didn't bother to photograph it. This is the 3rd bat I have found in the basement over a 2, maybe 3 year period. My research says bats enter house from up high, end up in the attic. From there they find there way into the basement and ultimately my find their way into your living space. It's suggested you watch your house at dusk (outside) and try to spot bats entering or exiting somewhere along the roof line, chimney, drip edge, soffit and facia. So that evening I did that became quickly bored. So I snapped some photos and experimented with some iPhone filters and other editing tools. This photo of some leaves was one of my creations.

While watching for bats at dusk I created this artsy iPhone photo. copyright Gary Walts 2024

A Long Drive: Carthage Hospital, Lloyd's of Lowville, Apple Store

           Bread & pastries from Mill House Market and a coffee mug from Lloyd's of Lowville.

We put the Better Half through an endurance test Thursday, March 23.  We started the day by leaving the house at 8:45AM to take her to Carthage Hospital for a cat scan. She has been concerned about shortness of breath ever since the blood clots in her lungs as well as lingering effects of Covid. From there we drove 25miles to Lowville just to have breakfast at Lloyd's Lowville, a classic old diner dating back to 1939.

This was the longest excursion we have taken since the BH broke her femur back in December. after breakfast she was somewhat uncomfortable but thought we should try to go to the Apple Store t Pyramid Mall, Syracuse.  I wanted to have them put a new battery in my iPhone 6s. So we did the. Took them about an hour and charged me $69.00, so that was pretty good. Put new life into my old phone.

Then we took a leisurely drive back home on US Rt 11. In Pulaski we stopped at Mill House Market where we bought some bread and a couple pastries. We got home about 3:30. That was a long day of sitting I the car. The Better Half was rather lame and sore afterwards . That evening both of her legs were achy as well as her butt from sitting so long.

Peacock photo taken at Seaway Gardens

After guitar lessons today I went to Seaway Gardens in Watertown to buy some garden plants. While there I snapped this photo of a peacock displaying his plumage. I used an iPhone V to take the photo and filtered it with Instagram.

Dandelion Photograph iPhone 5 Instagram

<br>
I snapped this photograph of Dandelions in the front yard of my home in Chaumont, NY with an iPhone 5. I then used an instagram filter to crop and tone it. I love the iPhone and instagram.

I photographed 3 jobs today for the Post-Standard / Syracuse Media Group: A man, one Dan Gristwood of Pennellville who spent nine years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Then it was a man named Chol Majok. He was one of the Lost Boys from Sudan who ended up in Syracuse and now works for Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner.  Finally, I photographed some lacrosse players at Christian Brothers Academy as they painted their faces with eye black before a game.  Tomorrow I have a couple of guitar lessons, a violin lesson w/ JJ and then I must take care of some yard work at my Franklin St apartment house.
