About this blog title

I cannot tell you how many times I have shown up at events with a couple of cameras around my neck, a gadget bag full of odds & ends and a lighting kit and have been asked that question. If it happened once every few years, that would be one thing. But it happens a LOT. It's like getting pulled over by the police and he's standing there with uniform, gun, flashing lights and asking him "Are you a cop?" I would love to come back with a witty reply, such as "No, I am Jesus. Don't you recognize my beard?" However, I cannot be that rude.

Artist Tom Bintz' 73rd Birthday

Artist Tom "Captain Honk" Bintz on his 73rd birthday, October 11, 2024

I made this portrait of  Tom "Captain Hink" Bintz on the morning of his 73rd birthday. We are at te Pillar Point Community Sign outside Dexter, NY.  Someone whom I don't know posts names of Pillar Point residents on this sign on their birthdays. On this day however, Bintz' name was missing. The phone number to call regarding the birthday posts was not working. His name was displayed however a couple of days later.
I have been working so much on our Clay St apartment house that I have spent little time with Bintz this summer. He is a long time friend and a talented, interesting fellow.

It is always a great pleasure when I visit my friend, the artist Tom Bintz, because I never know what visual treat I will find. A couple days ago he had this Elvis Presley poster that I had never seen before. It is from an Elvis concert at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, NY. He was with the Jordanaires. Ticket price was $1.75!! Bintz said he has had the poster for years, stashed under a bed.

Almost all of us know Elvis, but who were/are the Jordanaires? Check out Ray Walkers official Jordanaires web site.
Learn more about the Memorial Auditorium. AND, lets not forget Elvis' official web site.

Tom Bintz at Honk's Ferry, Lake Ontario

It is a beautiful Indian Summer day here in northern NY. Last year we had a several weeks of good weather nat this time. I was hoping for the same this year. I was hoping to get my driveway sealed, but that requires a couple of rain free days.
I spent yesterday editing a wedding and splitting firewood. Today I am taking care of odds & ends. Put thye wedding pix in the mail. I am teaching guitar at Musicology this afternoon.

The photo presented here is of the artist Tom Bintz at his home on Pillar Point, Lake Ontario. He refers to it as Honk's Ferry. I took this photo in 2007. It is a view from the boat house. The body of water in the background is Black River Bay in Lake Ontario.

Way Down Upon The Suwannee River

These couple of photos were taken in Bell, Florida at the home of the artist Tom "Capt. Honk" Bintz, on the Suwannee River.
The river was made famous by Stephen Foster's song "Old Folks at Home" (also known as "Swanee Ribber" or "Suwannee River")written in 1851.
