About this blog title

I cannot tell you how many times I have shown up at events with a couple of cameras around my neck, a gadget bag full of odds & ends and a lighting kit and have been asked that question. If it happened once every few years, that would be one thing. But it happens a LOT. It's like getting pulled over by the police and he's standing there with uniform, gun, flashing lights and asking him "Are you a cop?" I would love to come back with a witty reply, such as "No, I am Jesus. Don't you recognize my beard?" However, I cannot be that rude.

Christmas Eve at My Daughter's 2022

Christmas decor at daughter S' place. in Watertown, NY 2022

I spent Christmas Eve away from the Better Half this year, well, I should say not exactly. I saw her some of the day visiting her in the hospital where she was recovering from surgery to repair her right femur bone. On Thursday, December 23 she slipped on some snow and ice as we were leaving our grandson's house in Adams, NY.  By the time she was settled in the hospital a severe lake effect snow storm began and I was unable to go home. So for the next few day I was staying with my daughter S. More about that in another post.

Anyhow, it turned out to be nice spending more time with her than I have in a long time. Maybe ever. I really like how she decorated her place for Christmas. Christmas Eve morning she made great breakfast of eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. I had to shovel a great deal of snow to get out of the driveway. Hospital visiting hours begin at noon, so I was there at that time. Visiting hours end at 8:00 pm at which time I left. So I actually spent 8 hours with the Better Half.  Upon returning to S' house I had to shovel the driveway again as the snow hd been falling and blowing about relentlessly. After that I had a tasty beer, a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. S had to work overnight, but she works from home so she wasn't far away. I slept a good 10 hours that night. It was much needed.

Eggs and home fries. Missing in this photo was the toast and bacon. Superbly cooked It was like I was in a classic diner.

Finished the evening with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale that I had sitting outside while I shoveled snow.

Avocados, Peach Pie & Croghan Bologna for breakfast

Two of my favorite foods are avocados and Croghan bologna. Add some peach pie and I had a great breakfast. The pie was made by my sister S. She used peaches picked at an orchard in Pennsylvania. (On a recent visit she brought us a peck of those peaches.)

Breakfast of this champion consisted of  Peach Pie, Croghan Bologna (JalapeƱo& cheddar cheese version) and sliced avocado.

The recipe for the pie came from the Peach Truck Kitchen web site. Croghan bologna is a local, northern New York delicacy. It has been made in Croghan NY since 1888. However, the bologna in this photo is their NEW version. It is the exact same recipe as the original but has JalapeƱos & cheddar cheese added to it. It's delicious.  Avocados are avocados. You like them or you don't. I buy mine from Sam's Club. Generally there are 5 or sometimes 6 in a bag for about $5.00.

We used a premade crust for the pie and lost track the time while it was in the oven so it overcooked & burned the edge of the crust. BUT, it was still great. I urge everyone to try the recipe.

Coconut Cream Pie & avocados for breakfast

Awoke to another miserable April morning here in northern NY.It was snowing. Yesterday snowed and rained. The basement of our home in Chaumont is wet, wet, wet. The sump pump was barely keeping up with the rain flowing in. On a different note I had a great piece of pie and some avocado for breakfast, along with some coffee. It was a coconut cream pie made from scratch by The Better Half for my birthday. It is my favorite pie and the one she makes is about the best I've ever eaten. Other lovers of coconut cream pie that have tried hers agree, it's the best. I also hade some avocados just perfectly ripe for slicing and eating. This afternoon I have guitar lessons at North Country Music in Watertown.
