Cold Morning and Cooked A Turkey

 

Yesterday, (Friday) the 5th of December, It was 10 degrees at 7:00 am. Overnight the temperature went down to 1 degree. The previous day I thawed a 15 pound frozen turkey by immersing it in cold water, changing it every 30 minutes. 7 or 8 hours later it was thawed. I kept it in a cooler overnight in the back shed hoping it would remain safely cold until morning but not refreeze or partially refreeze. When I opened the cooler the temp was a safe 34.5 degrees. Perfect. We cooked the bird and had a nice dinner around 5:00pm. Oddly for me I never snapped a photo of the cooked turkey. I will say it was delicious. Earlier at 2:00pm  I met sisters Sue and Carol at Al's place in Calcium. The were returning from an overnight in Albany where the attended a live show with actor comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short. They said it was a great show.

Thawed turkey in a water bath, changing the cold water every half hour or so.

Kept thawed turkey overnight in the cooler where it remained at safe temperature of 34.5 degrees.

Brother Goes In For Prostate Surgery

Brother Al ready for prostate removal surgery. He was upbeat and joking.

 I drove my Celebrity Brother A into the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY for prostate gland removal. I got up at 4:15 am, left house in Chaumont at 5:00, arrived at his house about 5:30, got to the hospital at 6:00m, his check in time. At 7:30 he was wheeled into surgery. It's now 9:35. Procedure supposed to take about 3 and 1/2 hours.

Removal needed for new siding.

My brother Al & I spent better than 3 hours removing filling tubes on fuel oil heating tanks. The tubes protrude out the back wall of the house which will be getting new siding soon. It would have been quicker to use a Sawzall to cut the pipes, but that could potentially create sparks that might possibly ignite any fumes lingering in the storage tanks. I'm sure the pipe connections have never been undone since the original install. I don't know when that was, but many many years. We used a 4 foot pipe on  pipe wrench too break the fittings free. Due to space constraints we could only give the connections very small turns. Every turn of the wrench required much exertion. All said, it was a long, dirty, sweaty job.

Sunday Drive To Lake George and a Narragansett Turkey

The Better Half and I took a drive to Lake George yesterday (Sunday June 2).We went to Luzerne State Campground where brothers Al & Ron had been camping for 5 days. They rode motorcycles there to attend and participate in a motorcycle show. We went there to haul their camping gear back home for them. It was sunny, mild temps, no wind. A gorgeous day. We left Chaumont at 8:00 and arrived at the campground at noon. It was a most scenic drive through the Adirondack Mountains. We had lunch at a nearby place called Longhorn. Had a great burger. She had a turkey club sandwich. I took almost no photos as we headed homeward immediately following lunch. We arrived at Ron's place in Natural Bridge about 5:30. While they unloaded the car I snapped some photos of a Narragansett Turkey that resides there. The bird spends his time strutting around and showing off his feathers.

Live Trapped Two Squirrels

 I recently trapped and released two squirrels at our home in Chaumont, NY. The great squirrel I got on December 4, 2023. The red squirrel I caught yesterday, February 23, 2024. I released each one near my celebrity brother's home in Calcium. Squirrels have been a big nuisance here in Chaumont over the years. Occasionally I use a Have A Heart live animal trap. to try and get some away from our house.

Wind Storm Damage: Clay Street Door Replaced

Tuesday January 9, 2024, big wind storm tore door off our Clay St, Watertown apartment house.

It also caused wide spread power outages. My tenants on Clay St were fortunate that their power never went out.

New steel door purchased from Home Depot in place. Waiting for better
weather to do the trim.
